I read this one because Sally M recommended it (in her exploration of random TS stories) and I'm glad she did, because I might not have read or found it otherwise. If one just described the plot, it would sound like so many other hurt/comfort stories -- Blair behaving oddly, Jim worried but not doing anything, things go boom... but this actually worked; it wasn't an OTT cliche. Why does it work? Even though the reader can guess what's coming, the way it was put together, the picture painted for the reader to see, the way things built up gradually -- it worked. I particularly liked the way that Jim and Blair's thoughts occasionally mirrored each other though neither knew it.
