Summary: Here's the day Sarah thought would never come. Sarah gets a message and a gift. Then her whole life changes forever.

The clumsiness of the summary led me to expect yet another lacklustre Labyrinth story - I've been reading quite a few recently, but none of them were worth reviewing. But I was mistaken; this is a really good story.

It opens with a poignant and heart-wrenching surprise, and goes on from there. This isn't your average Labyrinth story; for one thing, it's rather hard to have a romance when one of the principals isn't there. For another thing, thank goodness, this Sarah is neither whiny nor selfish, even though her troubles here are even worse than they were in the original movie. She's been thrown in the deep end, and she's trying not to drown. This is about responsibility, and empathy, and choices. It also has flashes of the eerie wonder of the magic of the Labyrinth.

My chief disappointment is that it's too short. Not that it doesn't come to a resolution of sorts, but it's more of a beginning than an ending, and I want to know what happens next. But I doubt that the author will write a sequel.
