A letter from home sends Harry down a path he'd never have walked on his own. A sixth year fic, this story follows Order of the Phoenix and disregards any canon events that occur after Book 5.

This is an AU novel set after "The Order of the Phoenix", which manages to do the amazing feat of taking Harry and Snape from mutual hatred to respect and beyond -- believably. Not only believably, but magnificently. It has one of my favourite themes: redemption.

This story has love, hate, loyalty, betrayal, horrible suffering, tremendous bravery, death, life, cunning, misunderstandings, terror, nightmares, hot cocoa, curses, potions, plans within plans, lies, truths, surprises and snakes. The characterisations are not overstated to niceness or nastiness; changes are not sudden, and all our heroes get to be gits (in their own way).

It's also very long; set aside some holiday time to read it in, because you won't want to stop.
