I actually made two attempts to read this; one really has to be
in a mood for angst, and trust the author that things aren't as bad as
they seem. Whether or not such a thing would really happen, well, I
didn't let that bother me, because it was well done. An interesting
exploration of a possible way that Blair might react to the situation.
(How's that for non-spoiler, eh?) The way things are gradually built
up, Blair looking over the empty loft, bit by bit, the reader guessing
things before Blair does, and then wondering if everything is as it
seems... that was good. But only if you're looking for a lot of angst.
(2) Walking Through the Fires (Sentinel)

This is the same events as in "Memories and Memorabilia", told
from Jim's point of view. Reading them one after the other was slightly
disconcerting, because there were a few discrepancies, but one could
blame that on Blair's confusion anyway. The beginning is a bit awkward,
but once we get to the fire scene, it's very good. I particularly like
the vivid passage describing all the different kinds of flames, and
Jim's last run out. I liked the mystical stuff in this too. Some parts
of the hospital scenes feel a bit rushed, particularly the bit with Jim
and Megan. And I was wondering who this Curly person was -- maybe the
hospital characters were introduced in another story I haven't read?
And why are they calling him Dr. Sandburg? But definitely don't read
the first story without reading this one too. And don't read them out
of order.
