    PnP sequel about Mary

This sequel to Pride and Prejudice follows the fortunes of Mary, the middle Bennet daughter, the stuffy prissy one whom nobody listens to and everyone takes for granted.

I really liked the characterisation in this; the unease and growing disquiet Mary has with the way things are, wanting to be herself, but not really sure what that is. One of the things I particularly like about this is that while Mary does become less prissy and more at ease, she isn't suddenly transformed into someone less bookish or plain; she is still Mary at her heart, a heart which is earnest in its desire to do good.

I'm not so sure about the romance part of this, simply because I'm not really sure how the two of them would really suit, because he is so very different to her. But there is at least mutual respect and liking, which is a much better foundation than some of the marriages in that universe.
