Pride and Prejudice from Darcy's point of view (first in a trilogy).

Thoughts

There are are apparently a few authors who have taken their pens to write professional P&P fan fiction, as I discovered when looking at LibraryThing's recommendations. Judging from the reviews, though, most of them seem to fall into the romance-as-lust category, which I'm not interested in. This trilogy, however, is apparently closer to the tone of the original, and as Darcy is one of my favourite characters, I have high hopes for this.

I really enjoyed this. Seeing the events of P&P from Darcy's point of view is illuminating; some things surprised me, some things didn't, but it all fits. This book only covers one third of the events - the trilogy as a whole covers the whole thing. But even though this is longer than the original novel, it didn't drag for me at all.

Another interesting thing is that, judging from the interview in the back of the book, this was written as out-and-out P&P fan fiction on the net before it was published as a pro novel; there are apparently a few Austen fanfic communities out there. I shall have to track them down.
