While everyone raves on about the greatness of Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan/Barrayar books, I wouldn't recommend "The Spirit Ring" - you wouldn't know it was by the same person!

Maybe some of my enjoyment was marred by the fact that I recognised the historical scenario used as the basis for this novel (from my Art History classes) and I actually preferred the real history to this fake fantasy one.
