Thoughts

I bought this book from the UK, with its (literally) shiny cover illustrated by Brian Froud, perfectly conveying a take-no-prisoners kick-ass Faery, the eponymous "Knife" of the title.

When I began, it felt strange to read this book for the first time when it wasn't really the first time I'd read it. I had read an earlier draft of this while it was still being written, so I knew the overall plot already. At first, I was nodding to myself, noting the bits that had changed, and how they were better than when I'd originally read it. But then I just got caught up in the story and I stopped noticing the differences; my previous reading was less a comparison than a "oh, yes, we're coming up to a good bit, I remember liking this before..." In other words, it passes the test of a "worth reading twice" book; it doesn't matter that you know what is going to happen, because you are enjoying watching it happen as it happens.

Even more, it almost moved me to tears at one point; which is surprising because I knew what was going to happen, why would I be moved? But it managed to pull my heartstrings anyway.
