Sookie Stackhouse is a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. She's quiet, keeps to herself, and doesn't get out much... she can read minds. And that doesn't make her too dateable. And then along comes Bill. He's tall, dark, handsome - and Sookie can't hear a word he's thinking. One problem: he's a vampire.
Thoughts
I liked the character of Sookie a lot better than Harper Connelly; she was a bit more lively, more there. Unfortunately, while this was definitely more interesting than "Grave Surprise", the fact that it's about a girl with unusual abilities and a possibly-not-so-bad vampire makes it inevitable that I would compare it with Robin McKinley's Sunshine. And I found I would rather be reading "Sunshine" than this book. So rather than force myself to finish, I stopped half way through. And then re-read "Sunshine".
