Instructions for working a Pi Circle: Note: I use KFB increases below, you can substitute any other one-stitch increase. Cast-on 8 stitches and join in-the-round on double pointed needles. Round 1: Knit Round 2: KFB all stitches (16 stitches) Rounds 3-4: Knit (2 rounds) Round 5: KFB all stitches (32 stitches) Rounds 6-9 Knit (4 rounds) Round 10: KFB all stitches (64 stitches) Rounds 11-18: Knit (8 rounds) Round 19: KFB all stitches (128 stitches) Rounds 20-35: Knit (16 rounds) Continue in this manner, increasing every stitch in the increase rounds, and doubling the number of plain knit rounds between increase rounds. Switch to longer circular needles as needed. Bind-off using a normal bind-off and a larger sized needle on what would be a plain knit round (not an increase round!).

Long tail CO provides a neat edge to your work. But how often have you CO 200 of 220 and run out of yarn, ripped, CO again only to have 3 yards of extra tail at the end?

When a pattern requires you to CO 100+ sts how do you estimate how long a tail to leave? The answer: don’t.

Instead, use two tails of yarn, either from two separate balls of yarn or a tail from the inside and a tail from the outside of a center-pull ball.

Crochet cast-on. This cast-on uses a crochet hook to make the cast-on stitches. This is suitable for either Tunisian Crochet or for knitting. (The reason why the title says Tunisian Crochet Without A Chain is because a standard Tunisian Crochet cast-on uses a chain and then pull-up-a-loop for each chain.)

The Cable Cast On :: Knitting Cast On #3 :: Right Handed This video teaches viewers how to knit the cable cast-on, a stretchy and durable method for starting a knitting project. The Cable Cast On is a similar method to the Basic Knitted Cast On and creates the same type of effect. It is not used for cable knitting, but is great for keeping rib patterns from flaring at the edge.

The tubular cast on creates an edgeless edge to K1P1 fabric, with the stitches from one side of the fabric wrapping uninterrupted around to the other side. This video demonstrates using the crochet cast on as a start to the tubular cast on. You can use waste yarn or the long tail of the project yarn to begin. You can work over an even number of sts or an odd number, and you can work flat or in the round. A more complex cast-on than most, but a very worthwhile effect.

Yes, this cast on goes by many names (as most of them do). This is the single-strand version, and it creates a nice, elastic edge that's a bit more decorative than a typical Long Tail Cast On.

It's good for beginning top-down socks, shawls, mittens... It's springy and stretchy and pretty and versatile.
