The Waves braid is the design that I have been teaching beginners since I started teaching ply-splitting workshops in 1999. It is from Peter Collingwood's 1998 book "The Techniques of Ply-Split Braiding", where two variations are shown in Plate 20. Peter's description of how to make the braid is on pages 77-78. The structure is single-course oblique twining (SCOT).

The crocodile ridge braid is quite an exotic braid. It resembles the back of the crocodile. It seems like a mix of flat braid with a round braid at the center. In this video we take a look at the 6 stranded version.

In this simple step by step tutorial you will learn an easy and decorative three strand braid knot. The braiding process is basically the same as a hair braid. Whilst not a chain sinnet, it is nevertheless an elegant rope chain. You could do this in paracord to make a bracelet.

Four leather strands are round braided against a wood core, followed by the same four strands round braided without the core. Showing the around-the-core part first gives a good look at the structure of the braid, and makes doing it without a core clearer. (The leather strands that are braided around the core are ~8 mm wide each; in the round braiding without the core the leather thongs are thinned from ~8 to ~4 mm to give the round braid a tapered look.)
