How to string beads with smaller openings onto yarn. This is a different method from the pre-stringing or steel-crochet-hook methods. It is like the crochet-hook method, but instead of using a crochet hook, one uses a needle and thread to pull the bead onto the yarn. This works for beads that are too small to string onto the yarn and too small to fit on a tiny crochet hook, or with yarn that is too thick for the crochet hook to grab cleanly.

A nice step-by-step tutorial for making a beaded lacy earring crocheted around an earring-hoop. Some of the photos are a bit blurry, but you can still make it out okay.

Put the rope on a (Phillip's Head) screwdriver and crochet around it. The start of the rope will rest on the handle and not flop around.

This method of bead crochet does not require pre-stringing the beads onto the yarn. Instead, it uses an extra small crochet hook to thread the bead onto the current loop; a similar method is used for beaded knitting. The disadvantage of this method is that you have to start and stop; stop and thread the bead on the small hook and then exchange hooks, put on the bead, and then exchange hooks again. That's the trade-off for the advantage of not having to pre-string the beads.
